WK MUN Club

WK MUN Club

Model United Nations, also known as Model UN or MUN is an extra-curricular activity in which students typically roleplay delegates to the United Nations and simulate UN committees. During their meeting sessions students who are members of the MUN club work with their student coordinator and the guidance of their teacher coordinators to prepare and plan for an upcoming MUN conference, which is usually organised by a high school or college MUN club locally, regionally or internationally. Students learn about crucial current global issues, for example, politics, leadership, social justice, discrimination, racism, Government’s Economic, social, domestic and foreign policies, civil rights, causes and effects of wars, peace, terrorism, human rights, systems of governments and many more. It is also a fun way of learning about the world! In this era of globalisation, being globally aware is more important than ever. Also, having fun makes it easier to learn something and more likely to master the concepts and skills.

WK MUN Club hosts an annual conference Term 2. The date for this year is 5 - 6 July, 2024. For this conference, many local public high schools in Eswatini, as well as schools from the region (mainly South Africa and Mozambique) participate. This conference is an opportunity to have as many schools as possible in Eswatini involved in an event that will encourage the promotion of leadership skills in schools across the country. . We aim to have as many government schools as possible introduce the MUN club in their schools and participate in MUN conferences locally, regionally and internationally to develop leadership skills in Emaswati students across the schools in the country.

MUN gives a platform for young women to become aware of global challenges and understand how different member countries of the United Nations play a role in the development on a global, national and local level. We give young women opportunities to practise skills such as public speaking and writing formal speeches. Through holding a MUN conference, we bring in local and international schools together on campus and young women from different communities can interact, learn and exchange views with each other.
